Three groups of travellers
Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sorts visitors into roughly three groups:
- Visa-exempt — for example US and UK ordinary passport holders, who can visit for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
- e-Visa eligible — apply online at evisa.gov.tr; the ministry says it takes about three minutes.
- Conditional e-Visa or sticker visa — some nationalities qualify for the e-Visa only with a supporting document; otherwise they apply at a consulate or visa center.
Check your passport on our Türkiye page.
The conditional e-Visa (Pakistan, India and others)
Ordinary passport holders from Pakistan and India need a visa for Türkiye, but can get a one-month, single-entry e-Visa online if they hold a supporting document:
- a valid visa from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland, or
- a valid residence permit from one of those countries.
Rules from the Turkish missions (checked 22 October 2026):
- The supporting visa can be used or unused, but must be valid on your entry date.
- e-Visas of other countries don’t count.
- A supporting visa in an old passport is accepted — carry both passports.
- Airlines and Turkish immigration check the original document; the e-Visa website does not.
If you don’t qualify for the e-Visa
Apply for a sticker visa. In Pakistan, applications go through the authorised Anatolia Travel Services visa application centres. Plan for documents similar to other tourist visas: form, photos, bank statements, employment letter, bookings and insurance.
e-Visa basics
- Purpose: tourism or commerce only — not work or study.
- Passport valid 6+ months from arrival.
- Pay online by card; the fee shows after choosing your nationality.
- Print the e-Visa or keep it on your phone.
Only evisa.gov.tr is official. Turkish missions in India say no company is delegated to issue or facilitate e-Visas for them — so be careful with sites that look official.
Planning tips
- Istanbul’s two airports (IST and SAW) are major hubs; domestic flights to Cappadocia and the coast are frequent.
- The currency is the Turkish lira (TRY); cards are widely accepted.
