Do United States citizens need a visa for Thailand?

No visa needed for a tourist visit. Bring a valid passport, onward ticket and proof of funds. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is FREE on the official site (tdac.immigration.go.th) and takes a few minutes — you do not need us for it. Our TDAC help is optional assistance. Staying 31–60 days? You need a Tourist e-Visa.

United States passport holders can currently enter 143 destinations visa-free or with a visa on arrival, and 37 more with an online ETA or e-Visa. Thailand admits 81 of 198 passports without a full visa (visa-free, on arrival or ETA).

  • Visa-exempt stay cut from 60 to 30 days on 15 Sep 2026.
  • Beware sites charging for the TDAC as if it were a visa — it is free.
  • A proposed 450 THB tourism entry fee is not yet collected (possibly 2027).

Entry tips for Thailand

  • Carry proof of onward travel within your permitted stay and accommodation; officers may ask for funds (20,000 THB per person).
  • Visa-exempt entries over land borders are limited to two per calendar year.
  • Local currency is Thai baht (THB) — carry a card that works abroad and some cash for arrival costs.
  • Buy travel medical insurance that covers your whole stay.
  • An eSIM bought before you fly means data as soon as you land — handy for showing bookings at immigration.
